Before securing a permanent position at Nissan, Gareth was unemployed for eight months. No matter what job he applied for there always seemed to be lots of other people with more experience. On average there were 85 people applying for each job and competition was extremely fierce.

Before going through the Green Collar training programme, Gareth had looked into jobs at Nissan via the company website. After looking into the application process, he decided that going through the Green Collar route would be more beneficial. He would be trained, and there were good prospects of a job at the end.

Gareth did his training at the Nissan site and thought the process that he went through was ‘brilliant'. "If it wasn't for the course, I wouldn't have my job at Nissan or have gained all this valuable experience," he says. Gareth enjoyed all aspects of the course, he found the classroom-based work beneficial and informative, and the manual side gave him an insight into what he would be doing in the workplace. Gareth has always struggled with numeracy, but doing the tests in the programme helped him top-up his knowledge from school.

Gareth found Green Collar a ‘brilliant agency to work for'; he felt he could speak openly to the staff and was treated as a friend.

Gareth was recently offered a permanent position and now works in the Paint Shop and Axle Shop. Gareth says: "This process has made a dramatic change to my life. I don't feel that there are any obstacles any more. I am very happy working at Nissan, and I am hoping to make a long and successful career of it. Based on my own experience I would highly recommend the Green Collar training route."
