With the introduction of timed deliveries and stringent inventory policies, the Schmitz Cargobull plant in Harelaw, near Stanley have generated savings of at least £60k.

As Europe's largest manufacturer of trailers, Schmitz Cargobull produce, in their numerous plants, 40% of all trailers sold in Europe. Recently, under Andreas Schmitz and Tom Macallan MD, the Harelaw site has been undergoing a major transformation program.

In conjunction with Logistics Manager Steve Dickinson, we supported this program using initiatives to manage inventory and reducing costs of key areas within the operation. To cite some examples, the introduction of timed deliveries has saved up to £12k per annum on overtime alone, with a further £48k saved on transport costs through increased densities of tyre deliveries. A most recognisable impact was support on the ‘Make versus Buy' project, which works to reduce overall inbound supply costs.

Steve Dickinson, who is now the company's Supplier Development Manager said, "Overall, the project was an excellent initiative which worked successfully in parallel to other Schmitz activities to improve the overall plant capability."
